Sade Sati (literally “seven-and-a-half”) is one of the most discussed — and most misunderstood — periods in Vedic astrology. It is the classical 7.5-year transit of Saturn through the sign that holds your natal Moon (Janma Rashi) and the two neighbouring signs. Because Saturn takes roughly 2.5 years to cross each sign, the full journey across the three signs totals 7.5 years — hence the name. Sade Sati arrives roughly every 30 years, so most people experience it two or three times in a lifetime, and it tends to coincide with major karmic milestones.
Separate from Sade Sati, Saturn also visits the 4th and 8th houses from your natal Moon during its zodiac journey. Each such visit lasts 2.5 years and is classically called Dhaiya (half-Saturn) — also known as Kantak Shani (4th from Moon, tests home and vehicles) and Ashtama Shani (8th from Moon, brings deep transformation and caution in health matters).
Classical texts describe Saturn as the great teacher, not a punisher. Sade Sati is the period when Saturn systematically strips away what is superficial, forcing the native to rebuild life on a stronger, more mature foundation. Many of the most significant positive life events — marriage, promotion, major relocations, spiritual awakening, entrepreneurial success — have happened during Sade Sati for millions of people. What matters is how one walks through it: with awareness, patience, disciplined effort and classical remedies, the 7.5 years become a forge rather than a fire.
Our free Sade Sati calculator walks Saturn’s actual sidereal position across decades and lists every past, current and upcoming Sade Sati and Dhaiya window with exact start and end dates — broken down by phase — so you can plan major life decisions, anticipate turning points, and apply classical remedies (Shani mantra, Hanuman Chalisa on Saturdays, Neelam gemstone after consultation, disciplined seva) at the right time.
