About Manglik Dosha :
What is Manglik / Kuja Dosha?
In Vedic astrology, Mars (Mangal, Kuja) is the planet of energy, courage, aggression and initiative. When Mars sits in certain sensitive houses of the birth chart, its fiery influence touches key areas of personal and married life. This placement is classically known as Manglik Dosha, Kuja Dosha or Mangal Dosha.
How this calculator detects it
Based on Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and Phaladeepika, Manglik Dosha is declared when transit Mars in your natal chart falls in one of these houses from the Lagna (Ascendant):
- 1st house (Lagna) — affects personality, temperament, dominance in marriage
- 4th house — affects home life, emotional peace, domestic harmony
- 7th house — the strongest Manglik position — affects the spouse, marriage and partnerships directly
- 8th house — affects longevity of the spouse and the emotional bond
- 12th house — affects bedroom harmony and marital comfort
Our calculator computes the sidereal Lagna and Mars position using Lahiri ayanamsa and flags the dosha if Mars falls in any of these five houses.
Classical effects on marriage
When present, Manglik Dosha is believed to bring fiery temperament, ego clashes, delays in marriage, disagreements with the spouse, or in extreme classical descriptions, loss of the spouse. Modern Jyotish views it as a warning signal — not a curse — that the fiery energy of Mars needs to be channeled consciously in partnership.
Cancellations (Dosha Bhanga)
Manglik Dosha is cancelled or greatly reduced in several classical situations:
- Mars in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or exalted in Capricorn
- Mars aspected by Jupiter (benefic 5th, 7th or 9th aspect of Guru)
- Mars conjunct or aspected by the Moon
- Both partners are Manglik — the strongest classical remedy: two Manglik charts neutralise each other's dosha
- After the age of 28, the effect weakens considerably according to many schools
Remedies
If the dosha is present and not fully cancelled, classical texts suggest the following upayas (remedies):
- Chant 'Om Angarakaya Namaha' 108 times on Tuesdays
- Recite the Hanuman Chalisa every Tuesday — Hanuman is the classical deity who pacifies Mars
- Observe a Tuesday fast until sunset
- Offer red flowers, jaggery and masoor dal at a Hanuman temple
- Perform Kumbh Vivah or Vish Kanya puja — a traditional ceremonial remedy in some communities
- Wear a Red Coral (Moonga) in copper on the ring finger — only after consulting a qualified astrologer for Mars strength
